Realization Creates First Successful “Project Flow” Software
Project Flow Software Defies Conventional Project Wisdom

SILICON VALLEY - February 12, 2004 - Realization Technologies today announced that its software has created a successful new class of software called Project Flow for project-based organizations. This is a significant development because, while using conventional project management software, organizations lose many billions of dollars yearly since projects still fail to meet their targets.

"It’s time to realize that the problem isn't project managers or people. It is bottlenecks. Bottlenecks stop projects from flowing,” reports Realization CEO Sanjeev Gupta. “Bottlenecks occur when you have uncertainties, multiple projects to do and limited resources. Conventional software not only leaves it to project managers to wrestle with bottlenecks, but actually makes bottlenecks worse by automating the wrong rules.”

The Realization approach was to develop Project Flow software. Project Flow is a process of eliminating bottlenecks to increase the flow of projects in multi-project operations. Its proven success, Gupta explains, lies in three rules that defy traditional, conventional project management tradition.

First of all, projects should not be started as soon as possible. Secondly, project tasks do not need to be completed on time. And, thirdly, putting extra time, or buffers, into schedules will not slow down projects. They will speed them up.

Realization’s Project Flow software schedules projects based on the most limiting resources. It then assigns buffers in places where they can do the most good. Finally, it measures flow and prioritizes project tasks accordingly.

Senior managers in a wide range of multi-project organizations are using Project Flow software to get more projects done faster and finish them on target. Realization has endorsements from VP’s of Engineering, VP’s of Operations and senior officials in the U.S. military.
